Summary of Experience:
Professor Polinsky is an economist with extensive experience as an expert in litigation, especially in the areas of punitive damages, products liability, and class actions. He has consulted in the automobile, pharmaceutical, and computer hardware industries, among others. He has published more than 60 articles, mainly in the application of economics to law, and is the author of An Introduction to Law and Economics (Third Edition, 2003). Professor Polinsky obtained a Ph.D. in economics from MIT in 1973. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow, a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and a past president of the American Law and Economics Association. He is a Research Associate of the Program in Law and Economics at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Before joining the Stanford faculty in 1979, he taught both in the Economics Department and Law School at Harvard.
