Elizabeth Evans, Senior Advisor
What was your career path – how did you get to your current position?
I graduated law school at 23 and then spent seven years in private practice and at the Alabama Attorney General’s office. I decided there were too many lawyers and went back to school – to the University of Chicago – to get my M.B.A. During my second year at Chicago, my microeconomics professor Dean Jack Gould sent my resumé to Lexecon (now Compass Lexecon), where I worked for six years. Affiliate Rob Sherwin was then a senior economist at Lexecon. He joined Analysis Group in 1989 and recruited me into the firm’s Los Angeles office in 1991.
What sets AG apart from its competition?
In terms of building a career, Analysis Group is more flexible and offers more options than our competitors. In a securities case we might support the industry experts and/or accounting and finance experts that opine on liability issues, as well as the expert witnesses on damages. Also, we work with academic experts, not just in-house experts. Some firms primarily do liability or industry work and others focus mostly on damages. At Analysis Group, you’ll also have the opportunity to work with our academic affiliates – some of the real luminaries in their fields. Working with academics gives me the opportunity to keep up with the latest research.
What are some highlights of your time working for Analysis Group?
In addition to working with our academic affiliates on a variety of challenging and often high-profile cases, I’ve also been able to develop my career as a testifying expert. Additionally, I’ve been able to pursue my scholarly interests and have published chapters in two of the major textbooks in my area of expertise.
What hobbies or activities are you involved with outside of work?
I’m a weekend docent at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens and I take an international hiking trip every year. I just got back from hiking in the Czech Republic, where my trip ended with a splendid walk through Prague. I’m a big fan of the theater, and for the last 20 years have attended the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada. I am also on the Board of Directors of A Noise Within, a classical theater company in Los Angeles. I’m also an avid reader of all types of books and I enjoy trying new restaurants with my monthly dining group.
Describe what you do at Analysis Group
I work primarily on commercial litigation matters – often analyzing issues related to the accounting decisions made by a particular firm. I also perform general damages analyses, evaluate materiality issues, develop discount rate and cash-flow analyses to determine lost profits or royalties, and value assets, projects, and firms.
