Coastal Fuels of Puerto Rico v. Caribbean Oil Co.

Coastal Fuels of Puerto Rico v. Caribbean Oil Co. began in 1993 when Coastal Fuels, a subsidiary of the Coastal Corp. in Houston, failed in its efforts to sell and deliver marine fuels in Puerto Rico. Coastal Fuels alleged that it was thwarted in its efforts to enter the market because of secret price discounts given by Caribbean Oil to Coastal Fuels' competitors. During the lengthy litigation, Coastal Fuels had twice prevailed in jury trials, and the case was twice remanded back to the trial court.

On behalf of Coastal Fuels, Analysis Group provided economic assistance including analysis of product and geographic market definition, exclusionary conduct, antitrust injury, lost profits, and destruction of goodwill. Analysis Group Affiliate Robert Sherwin provided damages testimony in both trials. The parties reached a settlement in the case.
