Professor Rizzo is a health economist whose research interests include applied microeconomic studies of medical markets, the application of econometric methods to clinical outcomes research, and pharmacoeconomic evaluations of medical treatments and technologies. He has conducted research on the economic value of hospital admitting privileges to physicians, the welfare effects of hospital mergers, and the impact of advertising on competition in the physician and pharmaceutical industries. Professor Rizzo's work in pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research has demonstrated appropriate statistical techniques for risk factor assessment and includes economic evaluations of alternative treatments in geriatrics, psychiatry, and cardiovascular medicine.
