Summary of Experience

Michael Darby's economic research covers a broad range of areas, including international finance, industrial organization, the money and banking system, macroeconomics, and technology. He has written extensively on international trade matters in such periodicals as Economic Inquiry and Research Policy. During the Reagan and Bush administrations, he held appointments as Under Secretary for Economic Affairs at the US Department of Commerce and as Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy at the US Department of Treasury. Professor Darby is Associate Director for both the Center for International Science, Technology, and Cultural Policy in UCLA's School of Public Policy & Social Research and the Organizational Research Program of the Institute of Social Science Research. A member of the Center for Korean Studies at UCLA and a Center Associate of the Center for Pacific Basin Studies at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, he has also served as a consultant to Korea's Presidential Commission for Financial Reform.
