Summary of Experience:
Dr. Rafert specializes in the application of microeconomic theory, finance, and statistical methods to litigation and business strategy. His litigation case work covers a range of topics including finance, securities, intellectual property, and insurance. Dr. Rafert has empirically examined the management and performance of complex financial instruments such as collateralized debt obligations and mortgage-backed securities; analyzed the performance of pension funds and developed models to forecast their future performance; evaluated the damages resulting from intellectual property misappropriation; and evaluated the insurance practices of leading auto insurers. In addition to his litigation work, Dr. Rafert has engaged in numerous consulting projects involving the Internet and consumer products sectors. Recent assignments have included estimating damages from misleading Internet advertisement claims and analyzing the potential effects of taxes on some food and beverage categories. His research, presented in journals and before professional and academic audiences, has focused on issues in industrial organization, such as corporate structure, statistics, and consumer behavior.
