Analysis Group academic affiliate Willy Shih -- a professor of management at Harvard Business School with 28 years of prior experience in manufacturing -- was recently interviewed for a Wall Street Journal report on the challenges and opportunities facing U.S. manufacturing (June 2, 2015). In the interview, Professor Shih discusses recent developments in global supply chains and the lessons he has learned from site visits to manufacturing facilities over the years. In particular, Professor Shih notes that recent innovations suggest "we are on the brink of a new industrial revolution, where manufacturing becomes more network-based and the data that we get from cheap sensors will flow through the production process into the customer experience and then back again."
