Affiliate Sebastian Edwards Authors New Book on Tanzania’s Economic Collapse and Recovery

April 17, 2014

Analysis Group academic affiliate and UCLA professor Sebastian Edwards has authored a new book on the economic history of Tanzania since gaining independence in 1961. In Toxic Aid: Economic Collapse and Recovery in Tanzania, Professor Edwards contributes to the "effectiveness of aid" debate by focusing on the experience of one country over 50 years. Through his detailed analysis of how Tanzania's economy has evolved, including the policies of African Socialism and the Arusha Declaration, the collapse of the early 1980s, the role of the International Monetary Fund in Africa during five decades, and the reforms of the 1990s and 2000s, Professor Edwards provides a complete historical analysis of the evolution of economic thought on economic development and foreign aid.
