Independent Review of the ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee: Final Report
Report, December 17, 2018
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has released the final report from Analysis Group’s independent review of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC). The SSAC conducts ongoing threat assessment and risk analysis of the internet naming and address allocation services to assess where the principal threats to stability and security lie, and advises the ICANN community accordingly. The final report aims to identify which areas of the SSAC work well, which may benefit from improvements, whether it is accountable to the relevant stakeholders, and the implementation status of the prior review.
Analysis Group’s project team includes Vice President Greg Rafert (who has led several past independent reviews commissioned by ICANN) and Manager Christopher Llop, and Analysis Group affiliated experts Shlomo Hershkop (director of engineering, Allure Security Technology, Inc.) and Steven Weber (professor of political science and the I-School, UC Berkeley). In the final report, the team provides 22 findings and 30 recommendations for improving operations, which resulted from nearly a year of research – with input from interviews, surveys, and public comments.
