James

Manager, Boston

Why did you choose Analysis Group?
I chose AG for the collaborative culture I experienced as an intern. Being on case teams where everyone relies on each other and supports each other means never tackling complicated problems alone.
How does life at Analysis Group compare to grad school?
Instead of working by myself and receiving occasional feedback, I’m in constant contact with my case team members. That lets me ask for help when I need it, and makes me more productive.
What new experiences have you had since joining Analysis Group?
I’ve learned the ins and outs of so many different industries. It’s always surprising to see how an abstract principle from an economics textbook shows up in a real-world industry, and then to realize that that principle is actually central to our case.
What do you think of the case team dynamic?
Everyone on a case team has the same goal, and we all share credit for good work. This encourages us to listen to each other and trust each other – and it also makes the work more fun and higher quality. Getting up to speed on the relevant context for a new case can be challenging, but we’re all helping each other to support the experts.
What is it like to work in your office? What is the culture there?
Boston is AG’s largest office, but it doesn’t feel too large. Everyone is approachable and friendly. The parties and events, comfortable offices, and copious snacks are pretty nice too.
How do you find a suitable work/life balance?
I have a baby, so she forces me to maintain work/life balance. If I don’t get home in time for dinner, then I barely get to see her that day. So, even when work is busy, I try to get home for dinner. If necessary, I can finish up my work remotely after she goes to sleep.
