United States ex rel. Jordan v. Northrop Grumman Corporation

When the US government accused Northrop Grumman, a global defense firm, of providing the military with target drones that did not meet contract-specified reliability, Analysis Group provided statistical analysis to the defense team comparing the drones' actual performance with their contract-specified reliabilities. Academic affiliate Dennis Aigner, dean of the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara, showed that the drones' actual performance was significantly better than, or at worst statistically indistinguishable from, their expected performance. Professor Aigner, a renowned statistician and econometrician, refuted the government's experts. He worked with Northrop Grumman's counsel Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton. The potential liability of $630 million sought by the government was reduced through settlement negotiations to $20 million.
