Date: November 28, 2018
Host:The Knowledge Group
Times:12:00–1:30 p.m. (PT) / 3:00–4:30 p.m. (ET)
In this webinar, Principal Almudena Arcelus will join a panel to discuss how the widespread adoption of blockchain technology across businesses may affect the antitrust environment for firms. Due to certain features of the technology, such as its decentralized nature, there are new regulatory and legal considerations that may change the antitrust landscape. To provide attendees with a better understanding of how the adoption of blockchain technology will impact various stakeholders, the panelists will summarize the potential risks and useful mitigation strategies relevant to antitrust considerations.
Specifically, Mrs. Arcelus will provide a primer on blockchain technology, discuss various critics' arguments that the adoption of blockchain technology will lead to anti-competitive outcomes, and offer a rebuttal to those arguments by explaining how the technology's characteristics could just as easily produce pro-competitive outcomes. She will also share how the right mix of blockchain network design/implementation and legal deterrence may dictate how competition is affected.
