New York Fed Research Conference on FinTech Features Analysis Group Managing Principal Lisa Pinheiro on Big Data and Machine Learning

Managing Principal Lisa B. Pinheiro was a presenter and panelist on “Big Data and Machine Learning in Banking, Law and Economics” at the second annual FinTech research conference. The conference, which was hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, also covered such topics as cross-border payments, market design, robo-advising, and digital currency. Ms. Pinheiro discussed the usage of big data in health care economics and finance litigation, with a focus on natural language processing (NLP) to detect nuanced patterns from massive amounts of data. She also addressed data science in intellectual property (IP) litigation, including false advertising and patent and trademark infringement.

Ms. Pinheiro’s co-panelists were Charles Elkan, from Goldman Sachs; Gerard Hoberg, from the USC Marshall School of Business; and Jann Spiess, from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. The discussion was moderated by Mao Ye, from the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois.
