AT&T Acquisition of DIRECTV – Survey of Consumer Preferences

In a case widely covered by the media, Analysis Group assisted the phone and Internet services provider AT&T and satellite television services provider DIRECTV in AT&T's acquisition of DIRECTV. An Analysis Group team led by Managing Principals T. Christopher Borek and Rebecca Kirk Fair, developed, conducted, and analyzed a survey study examining consumer attitudes toward bundled Internet and television services. AT&T and DIRECTV cited the outcome of the study in their applications to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), pointing to the benefit to consumers from more integrated bundling of the Internet and television services when such services are delivered by the same provider. The FCC and the US Department of Justice approved the acquisition.
