Identifying High-Impact Disruptive Technologies

Analysis Group was engaged to help a leading auto manufacturer identify important technologies that could disrupt the industry in 10 to 15 years. We were also asked to help the client leverage these technologies to lead the industry through competitive advantage. Working with the automaker's technology intelligence group, we helped the auto manufacturer identify those technologies that initially offer unique benefits to small, trailing-edge markets, and then mature to appeal to mainstream markets, surprising established companies, upending their business models, and cannibalizing their current product lines. Our team also developed tools and performed analyses to discover which technologies would have the greatest likelihood of disrupting the company's business model, as well as those presenting optimal future opportunities and competitive advantage. We screened 40 technologies to identify those that could affect not only the automobile but also the fundamental assumptions of personal transportation.
