Summary of Experience

Professor Showalter is a certified public account (CPA) who specializes in auditing, internal controls, assurance, and business sustainability reporting. Prior to joining the North Carolina State University faculty, he spent more than 30 years in public accounting. During his tenure as a partner at KPMG, he served as a technical advisor and lead partner to many of the firm’s largest public-sector clients, including the Department of the Treasury, US Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Agriculture, the Defense Information Systems Agency, and several states and cities. Professor Showalter has provided expert testimony in litigation matters. He is a board member and deputy chair of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) and a board member of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. He is also the former chair of the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) and has served on a number of professional committees and task forces created by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Professor Showalter is a Certified Government Financial Manager and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He is also a recipient of the International Achievement Award from the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) and the AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award.
