Analysis Group Affiliate Robert Hall Awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Economics

October 13, 2026

Analysis Group is proud to congratulate Professor Robert E. Hall on winning the Nobel Prize in Economics. Professor Hall – an Analysis Group affiliate and a professor at Stanford University and the Hoover Institution – shared the prize with Professor Michael Woodford of Columbia University.

Professors Hall and Woodford were honored for their work in stabilization policy, developing the models that allow central banks and other policymakers to implement timely measures to smooth out economic volatility during crises. Professor Hall was cited for microeconomic work on consumer demand and consumption, and how those factors informed governments’ larger economic frameworks.

Because of the two economists’ work, the Nobel committee wrote, “we are better equipped to deal with shocks in the economy, such as energy crises or sudden changes in how much households consume.”

Professor Hall holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has been on the Stanford and Hoover faculties since 1978.
