Managing Principal Joshua White and Vice President Philipp Tillmann Present at Informa CompLaw: Summer School

August 18, 2026

Competition experts from Analysis Group joined the faculty of the 28th edition of Informa CompLaw: Summer School, a comprehensive week-long introductory course on EU and UK competition law and economics. Managing Principal Joshua White (based in London and Brussels) and Vice President Philipp Tillmann (based in Paris and Brussels) were among the senior regulators, lawyers, academics, and economic consultants delivering tailored sessions for legal professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of competition law. Held at Cambridge University’s Downing College, the program brought together participants from competition authorities, law firms, and corporations around the world for a week of learning and networking.

Mr. White joined Bristows Partner Sophie Lawrance in discussing the interaction between intellectual property (IP) rights and EU competition law, with particular focus on Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). They considered whether, and why, IP rights may require distinct legal and economic treatment, before exploring how Article 101 applies to IP-related agreements. The discussion touched on the Technology Transfer Block Exemption Regulation, issues arising under Article 102 (including settlement agreements, patent abuse, and obligations to license), as well as practical enforcement questions and the role of economic analysis.

Dr. Tillmann presented alongside Andrew Morrison, Of Counsel at Wilson Sonsini, on competition law issues arising in labor markets, including no-poach agreements and wage-fixing arrangements. He examined when such conduct may raise anticompetitive concerns, when it may generate procompetitive efficiencies, and how those effects can be assessed. Dr. Tillmann also discussed lessons from enforcement activity in the United States.
