Summary of Experience
Professor Terzi specializes in machine learning and algorithmic data mining with an emphasis on online learning, social-network analysis, recommendation systems, urban informatics, and large language models. Her research aims to find efficient and principled methods from theoretical computer science and machine learning for designing effective algorithms in these domains. Professor Terzi is a faculty member of the Massive Data, Algorithms, and Systems Group at Boston University (BU). Currently she serves as the vice chair of the computer science department and the director of the online master’s program in computer science and AI at BU. Her research has been published in academic journals such as Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, the VLDB Journal, Expert Systems with Applications, and Clinical and Vaccine Immunology. Professor Terzi has served as a visiting researcher at Microsoft Research, Sapienza University of Rome, Aalto University, the Athena Research Center, and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. She has received multiple National Science Foundation (NSF) awards, including the NSF CAREER award, the Microsoft Research Faculty Fellowship, and the Nokia Visiting Professor Fellowship. Before joining Boston University, she was a research staff member at IBM Research – Almaden.
