Summary of Experience
Professor Beraja is an economist whose research explores how digital and AI technologies impact productivity, labor markets, and political economy outcomes. He is a recognized leader in AI economics, with expertise in topics such as AI automation, the economic effect of AI on society and labor markets, data as input in AI innovation, the use of AI in accelerating organizational learning, AI surveillance, and industry concentration. Professor Beraja’s recent research studies innovation in environments with contested property rights, including the use of data for training generative AI models. His work has been published in prominent economics journals, and he serves as an associate editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association. Professor Beraja is the recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and was recognized by the Review of Economic Studies Tour. He is a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in the Productivity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship program, and he regularly contributes to the NBER “Digital Economics and AI” working group. Previously, Professor Beraja was on the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
