Google: What Lies Ahead” from October 29, 2024 on the Section website. They provide an overview of a discussion moderated by Daniel Francis (New York University) with panelists Renata Hesse (Sullivan & Cromwell), William Kovacic (George Washington University), Nancy Rose (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and Carl Shapiro (University of California, Berkeley).

The authors recap the panelists’ discussion of the United States v. Google case, in which US District Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google acted as a monopolist in the internet search market in violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act. The panelists described their reactions to Judge Mehta’s decision and discussed the possibility of structural remedies and divestiture, the complexities of implementing behavioral remedies for Google, and relevant antitrust precedents.
