Senior Research Professional, Toronto
- What motivated you to pursue a career at Analysis Group?
- My background is in economics. After spending a couple of years working in finance, I pursued a master’s in health economics to move toward a more quantitative and academic path. I was looking for opportunities that combined academic, analytical work with real-world applications. Analysis Group’s health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) practice seemed like a great fit – rigorous, analytically challenging case work, often leading to publication, that helps clients make important decisions about new drugs.
- What aspects of your work do you find most rewarding? What do you find most challenging?
- A lot of my work involves developing economic models for new drugs to help clients prepare for reimbursement submissions in different countries. Although cases can get busy as regulatory and reimbursement submission deadlines approach, it is very rewarding to see a drug I worked on receive reimbursement approval and know that our analysis contributed to the process. Economic models are a critical part of the UK’s drug reimbursement process – seeing a front-page BBC news article about our client’s drug receiving reimbursement approval was particularly rewarding.
- What is it like to work on an HEOR team? What types of projects have you worked on?
- Case teams can vary in size, office mix, and expertise, but they’re always highly collaborative, with everyone pitching in to move the work forward. Most of my projects involve building economic models that show whether a new drug offers good value for money and what it would cost health systems in countries such as the US, UK, and Canada. This mean pulling together many different inputs – for example, using a client’s clinical trial data to predict how patients will fare over the long term. I also help clients plan, well before their trial results come in, what evidence they'll need to make the case for their treatment.
- How does Analysis Group support your professional development?
- From my first few weeks, it was clear that professional development was a priority at Analysis Group. The firm invests heavily in technical training and ongoing development: in coding and programming, in communication skills such as writing and presenting, and, for those of us in health care, in HEOR sessions on new methods and the kinds of cases colleagues are working on. Analysis Group also provides a professional development budget that can be put toward academic credits, workshops, and summer schools, so we can keep broadening our HEOR knowledge and professional networks outside the firm.
- What makes the Analysis Group community unique?
- What stands out to me is my colleagues’ strong academic backgrounds and shared intellectual curiosity, particularly in economics. As someone who really cares about economics (and health economics in particular), it feels like we are all on the same page and able to learn from each other, whether discussing case work or the world more generally.
- What are your favorite activities/hobbies outside of work?
- Outside of work, I like to see friends and family, and to spend time enjoying London and the surrounding southeast – attending concerts and jazz clubs, visiting art galleries, or going to the park with friends. I travel frequently around the UK, Europe, and further afield, and I keep busy during the week by running, playing the piano, and reading.
