Vice President Jenny Zhou Led Symposium on Advancing Real-World Evidence in China at ISPOR Asia Pacific Summit

The applicability of real-world evidence (RWE) to health care regulator and payer policies in China is rapidly advancing. To address this, Analysis Group Vice President Jenny Zhou, Professor Jing Wu (Tianjin University), Zhou Zhou (Sanofi), and Professor Xiaoning He (Tianjin University) led an educational symposium at the ISPOR Asia Pacific Summit.
The symposium, “Advancing Real-World Evidence in China: Data, Policy, Regulatory Needs, and Innovation,” explored how RWE and AI applications may inform localized requirements for drug approval, value assessment, and reimbursement decision making in the country. Participants brought unique perspectives on China’s evolving RWE landscape and discussed new RWE solutions for demonstrating the value of novel therapies, modeling disease trajectories, and accelerating evidence generation at scale.
Key takeaways included the formalization of a national value-evaluation framework; the emergence of regional, disease-specific, and federated data that expand analytic reach; and the growing regulatory and payer use of RWE to assess treatments when conventional randomized trials may be difficult to conduct or may not fully reflect clinical practices in China.
