Summary of Experience

Professor Miller is an expert in financial markets, including company information disclosure practices and price reactions to disclosures. His research examines information content of various disclosures, including earnings guidance and investor activism, and disclosure channels, such as conference calls, investor conferences, social media posts, press coverage, and IPO roadshow presentations. Through his research, Professor Miller frequently conducts event studies and has used more innovative research methods, including natural experiments and textual analyses using machine-learning classification. Professor Miller has published and presented on disclosure requirements with his work being presented at the SEC and cited in SEC rules. He has served as an editor of The Accounting Review and associate editor of the Journal of Accounting and Economics as well as on the editorial board of the Journal of Accounting Research. He has been quoted or cited in numerous outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, US News & World Report, Bloomberg Businessweek, Fortune, CFO Magazine, The Washington Post, and Marketplace. Prior to joining the Michigan faculty, Professor Miller was a professor at Harvard Business School. Earlier in his career, he worked for Arthur Andersen and Deloitte.
