Professor Traynor is a scholar in computer science whose work spans cybersecurity, networking, mobile and distributed systems, and the societal implications of emerging technologies. His research has advanced the security and reliability of critical infrastructure, including telecommunications networks, digital financial systems, and voice-driven platforms, while also addressing broader challenges in privacy, usability, and policy. He develops practical, deployable solutions that bridge theory and real-world impact, often in collaboration with industry and government partners. In addition to leading major research initiatives, Professor Traynor has published extensively in peer-reviewed venues, including Proceedings of the USENIX Security Symposium (SECURITY) and ACM Transactions on Privacy and Security. He has also contributed to innovation through the co-founding of multiple technology startups and through patents and technology transfer activities. Professor Traynor’s honors include a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, fellowships from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Center for Financial Inclusion at Accion, and the Kavli Foundation, and multiple other recognitions for research, teaching, and professional service. He is a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
