Noah
She/Her
Senior Analyst, Los Angeles
- How were your first few weeks or months at Analysis Group?
- I joined AG a few months after the other analysts in my cohort, and everyone I worked with patiently helped me become used to case work and quickly catch up to speed. They gave me courage to take a more proactive role within my cases. On the social side, while I missed the orientation with my cohort in September that year, I had a great time getting to know everyone in the California offices when we had a joint ski trip in March. And AG let me attend the next orientation in Boston, so I in fact did not miss out!
- Can you share a memorable experience working with an affiliate or expert (if you have worked with any)?
- I have worked with Principal Hristina B. Bartlett since I first joined AG. She also started at AG as an analyst, and is a very hands-on expert. During my first year, there were multiple occasions when I presented my work to her and, when asked to make a live edit, took some time to proceed due to my limited experience with the software, Hristina would say, “Noah, let me show you something,” and take over the screen. She would then show me the most efficient formulae or shortcuts for our analyses. I still use what she taught me and even share them with other case teams. As the training coordinator in the Los Angeles office, I must say AG has very comprehensive training programs, yet I value these learning opportunities through case work just as much.
- What is it like to work on a case team? What types of cases have you worked on?
- I have worked in practice areas such as securities, insurance, commercial disputes, labor and employment, and neither my case team members nor I have all these backgrounds. We supplement and learn with each other, creating a very supportive environment. The case team set-up at AG allows flexibility in terms of who I work with, but requires great coordination among team members. I often find myself working with people in other offices and even other time zones, so we always try to arrange our meeting times and internal deadlines to accommodate each other. On the other hand, when I work with people in the LA office, we can visit each other’s office room and discuss relevant analyses, drawing all over each other’s white board.
- What is a typical day like in your role as an analyst?
- At AG, your experience as an analyst is whatever you make of it. AG analysts are supposed to possess a diverse skillset and responsibilities. One person may focus on quantitative analyses, while another may choose to improve their qualitative skills first. I like a mix of both, but I enjoy mentoring others as well. Hence, in addition to performing my own analysis, I always look for opportunities to show newer analysts and associates how to do it.
When I am not too busy with case work for clients, I also find myself helping with pro bono work and firm building activities. I have organized training programs for interns and full-time new hires and hosted events for the affinity group, Asians@AG, bringing the LA office together to celebrate Asian heritages. - How would you describe the atmosphere in your office?
- The LA office is large enough for me to be able to find a new person to work with at any time and small enough for me to know where my coworkers sit. I love coming into the office to collaborate with my team members and get to know other coworkers.
In addition to catching up with each other when getting coffee or lunch, we all enjoy attending special events, and our admin team loves hosting them. We’ve done everything from a tasting event to celebrate female brand owners to an annual charity stair-climb competition at the nearby US Bank Tower.
